What if you could change your past?

He often thought about ways he could

Alter the reality that he had lived in.

What if he had caught that bus,

Had gone around the country,

Without a care in the world.

What if he had finished those

Guitar lessons,so now he could

Write songs about the one who

Got away, the friend who abandoned

or the life he was starting to despise.

She met him at the coffee shop

on the corner of the street,

His nose deep in the pages of

A book they both loved.

She had fled from her world, taken

That leap, to explore, to find new things.

She had met all sorts of people,

But never had she seen so much regret,

as she had in his eyes.

Regrets about things he did not do,

About the things he had done.

A cup of coffee later, she asked him

"What if you could change your past ?"

He spoke of the relationships he wished

Hadn't existed, the time he had let

His best friend leave, not posting the

Letters he had written for the last five years,

And if he had left , when he wanted to

But didn't because he was scared of the new.

She shook her head and told him,

"You can never regret what you haven't done,

or the things you did. They reflected what you

thought was right at the time."

That day he realized that he had worried

About things that didn't matter. That day

Was the last time he ever saw her. He'd

Sometimes wonder who the stranger was.

He was surprised that he had opened up to

her, without giving it a second thought.

She looked at him and smiled, for the

angel had set another human free.
