After a 3 year hiatus, the man (uh,a boy rather) in the red costume is back ( so many men in spandex lately) and we have our very own Spiderman back with a bang as an awkward strangers, so like us but just with a secret life that includes a Tony Stark designed suit!
While the previous Spiderman movies had been very intense and had the usual villain, a normal suit and a sweetheart in distress, this movie had a fairly different take on our very own Spidy. We can almost say that the age of the Peter Parker decreases every time we have a new actor playing Spiderman.
(Before diving in, I would already like to apologise if I get any facts wrong as I have a very limited knowledge about Marvel Comic Universe.)
We have a 15 year old Spiderman, mentored by none other than Tony Stark. That one statement had to be enough for any Iron Man fan to come running to the theaters or wait for a long time and go through the usual phases : the Initial poster release, set photos, the teaser trailer, the actual trailer, the follow up trailer, Comic Con trailer and finally the Movie. The anticipation is great for a fan who has patiently gone through all these phases and then expecting to see a pretty amazing movie. Homecoming , with Two avengers doing Cameos, probably has lived up to the expectations.
Tom Holland's Spiderman , from what I understand, is the closest the MCU got to the actual Comic book Spiderman's onscreen representation. With the funny quips, cool dude entry into the Villain lair, the trash talk with the bad guys : Spiderman homecoming had it all.
And Iron Man's got his back! Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man is missed by fans ever since the Iron Man Trilogy got over. Even though we have seen him in Avengers 2, it is good to have him back on screen much before Infinity War and hopefully, we will have more of him in Thor: Ragnarok.
Ned gave us quiet a few moments throughout the movie to chuckle about and it was good to see the light- hearted side of Spidey on- screen. The man in the chair and his moments in the movie were quiet amusing. Aunt May has also changed and they also seem to grow younger movie after movie. When going into the theatre, I always wish that there should be no love interest involved in every freaking superhero movie and this one had Liz, it was kind of disappointing to have a save-the-heroin-from-danger scene. The scene was something more innovative this time because she wasn't captured by a villain(Thank God! That would be so cliche), but stuck in the elevator of the Washington Monument.
Now speaking about the suit. Since it was designed by Tony Stark, it got several upgrades over the traditional Spiderman suits which were designed by Peter Parker himself. We have a new AI in picture, Karen! Tony Stark seems to always create those a lot. The suit is such a cool addition to the character of this new side of Spiderman that we had never seen on screen.
My favorite scene in the movie was the Ferry scene , where every fan must have had a deja vu feeling.
Even though Spiderman couldn't stop the Ferry from splitting, Iron Man had his back!
I also kind of had feeling in the beginning that there would be a nice little twist and Peter would end up with MJ, but I guess this movie couldn't have it all.
We also got to see a cool new villain, the Vulture. The greatest thing about this version of Peter Parker was that despite being a 15 year old kid, he fought off someone with that kind of weaponry without the cool Tony Stark suit and did not have a death on his conscience by saving the villain. Michael Keaton(Batman fame) plays Vulture and does a pretty good job at it.
Since I don't do the rating part of the reviews, I would say that I am very much looking forward to Tom Holland as a part of Avengers and would also like to know what will happen to our teen Peter Parker , now that Aunt May has found out that he is Spiderman and whether the jail- time would finally make the Vulture reveal Peter's identity to the jail mates.
P. S. Do feel free to drop in an mail if I missed out any cool moments or got anything wrong.
