First Impressions : the Eleventh Doctor
I had no wish of starting with the new doctor. I had gone hysteric when the Tenth Doctor started regenerating. I had grown rather fond of David Tennant – the weirdly, adorable charm; Messy hair; the eccentricity. His shabbiness and the constant eyebrow raise kind of set the best standards for the Doctor. I did not want a replacement so soon. But then he regenerated.
The Eleventh Doctor - Matt Smith. I felt this immense urge to turn it off, but I continued. I never scrutinised David Tennant so much, perhaps because I did not have a reference of a previous doctor, but post regeneration, everything Smith did was compared against the Tennant scale. Right from the minute he appeared in TARDIS. Initially, I developed a bit of distaste to everything he did (team Tennant!) but after a while, I tried to keep an open mind.
So I waited and thought about whether I should continue with series 5 or not. After giving it a lot of thought and doing lot of blabbering, I decided to give the Eleventh Doctor a shot. So I started watching “The Eleventh Hour”.
Since before the regeneration, the Doctor didn’t have any companion with him, everything was going to be new: A new doctor, a new companion, even the writer was new.
After two episodes of series 5, I have kind of lost hope for Matt Smith. He tried his best to be like David Tennant but has failed many of the times. Even though there were some really cute and funny scenes, but the credit for that goes to Stefen Moffat , I suppose. May be , if in future episodes, if Matt Smith can create his unique yet insane image of the Doctor instead of trying to be like the Previous one, I might actually consider liking the eleventh doctor the way I liked the Tenth doctor.
The show still is fun to watch.
Amy Pond seems to be much smarter than the previous of doctor’s companion (except for the Doctor Donna obv.) and gives me a reason to watch the show as we get a nice backstory for her. Another exciting part was the TARDIS. We finally see a better version of TARDIS(minus the rickety stuff) and know the extent of the space it has inside( library and swimming pool) . Hopefully the show runners show me what is there in TARDIS except for the dials and the phones and the entrance.
Maybe it was too soon to review on the Eleventh Doctor,
but I don’t like him yet, so this is just the initial review. I’ll mention in the next post (the Twelfth Doctor post in near future) , if I like anything about Matt Smith’s Doctor. You can tell me about your views via mail, and I’ll update the post with them if I agree.
